Summary of Position:
To provide outcome and strength based supports to children and youth and their families. This is done by utilizing hands on teaching methods for daily living skills and therapeutic approaches (i.e. Recreation Therapy, Art and Music Therapy, etc.), if qualified, to develop strengths and work on identified needs and goals. A variety of techniques will be utilized in an effort to improve physical, mental, and emotional well-being. This will be provided in 1:1 or in groups of no more than 1:3.
- Education and Experience
Associate or Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Expressive Therapies (Recreational Therapy/CTRS, Art, Music, etc.), Education, Social Work, Psychology or Mental Health. Minimum of 1-year work experience with individuals and/or children with disabilities required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of therapeutic and teaching approaches and methods
Valid Driver’s License. Ability to work flexible/non-standard schedule (including some evenings and weekends)
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Essential Functions:
- Experience and knowledge of outcome based techniques to help improve overall functioning, independence, and reduction in symptoms of illness and condition
- Demonstrated ability to teach others. Including Daily Living Skills, social skills, community involvement, and outcome based counselling and therapeutic supports, if qualified
- Assist and support children and youth with disabilities in becoming actively involved in their communities, develop friendships, and independent use of community resources
- Regularly provide opportunities for inclusion through planned activities, social interactions, exposure, advocacy, training and education
- Directly provide skill development, training and interventions in the areas identified in the assessment and planning process
- Knowledge in the modifications, adaptation, and use of specialized equipment
- Provide assistance with personal care tasks, as needed (i.e. mobility, eating, bathroom, etc.)
- Basic case management experience
- Conduct basic assessments and evaluations
- Ability to write or assist in writing of the individual service plans (ISP), which outlines the goals of the individual
- On-going monitoring and evaluation of the support plans (ISP)
- Ability to work independently to manage case load, schedule, appointments, and complete required job tasks with a high level of autonomy and quality
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Be knowledgeable in and able to document properly on all individual services provided daily in the required time frame and format, including billing information
- Assess the satisfaction of participant and their families and be able to clearly communicate that information to others on the team
- Ability to maintain open, respectful, and clear communication with the participant, their families, county team members, and supervisor
- Attend regular review meetings and write reports detailing progress towards goals and stated desired outcomes
- Participate in required staff team meetings, client meetings, and meetings with supervisor
- Work closely with and communicate regularly with other members of the individual’s team. Including: parents/guardians, families, school systems, county, natural supports, and other service providers
- Meet all necessary training requirements in the stated deadlines. Examples: Mandatory reporter, CPI, parent/family trainings, Bully Prevention, family/school trainings, transitioning from youth to adult services, state initiatives, evidence based practices, medication training, Aggression Replacement Training, Behavioral Parent Training, and any other trainings that would assist in maintaining and updating knowledge to ensure a high level of expertise
- Maintain all current applicable certifications and licenses by completing necessary trainings and CEU requirements
- Transport and accompany individuals to community activities in company or personal vehicles
- Must pass WI caregiver background check
- General knowledge of computer use and programs required
III. Physical Requirements
- Ability to facilitate, initiate and respond to verbal, written, computerized, telephone and fax communications.
- Ability to demonstrate, train and/or model job tasks/duties/responsibilities.
- Ability to perform quality inspection according to ODC’s and/or customer’s requirements.
- Mobility to access various locations within/outside ODC facilities.
- Physical ability to lift or transfer adults when providing personal care.
- Physical ability to provide and/or respond to behavior intervention.
- Lifting 25 – 35 lbs frequently – up to 60 lbs occasionally.

Therapeutic Recreation Interns, if qualified (CTRS)
